In honor of the holiday, our hours this week are:
Wednesday, 11/26 10-4
Thursday, 11/27 Closed
Friday, 11/28 10-6
Saturday, 11/29 10-6

During the month of December, our store hours are 10-6 Monday thru Saturday.

Upholstery Classes

The Columbus Dispatch (our local newspaper) visited us this past Monday night to check out our upholstery class. Look for an article in the December 14, 2008 Home and Garden section. All the students were excited to talk to the reporter about their project - how they obtained the piece, the old fabric that was on the chair, their new fabric and how they like to learn a new skill - as well as how much money they are saving by doing the reupholstery themselves!

The Allure of Silk

Silk is an almost mystical fiber, sought after and fought over for centuries. Here are some of the qualities that make it so desirable:

Luster – The smooth silk fiber reflects lights, creating a luster and beauty unmatched by other natural fibers.

Strength – Silk is the strongest natural fiber for its weight. Nylon is the only synthetic fiber that is as strong.

Color – Silk is easy to dye, so fabrics are often brightly colored or iridescent. Prints take so well that the back looks almost as good as the front!

Durability – Silk is tougher than cotton and fine wool, but not as durable as linen or coarse wool. It resists molds and mildews that cause fibers to rot.

Elasticity – Silk will stretch up to 20% without breaking. It is also resilient, meaning it springs back into shape.

It Breathes – Silk is porous, which allows the skin to breathe. The absorbent fiber wicks moisture away from the body.

Warmth – Silk provides warmth without the weight or itch of wool.

Upholstery Services

Reupholstering an existing sofa, chair, loveseat, chaise, ottoman, etc. may be cost effective and save money if the piece to be re-covered was originally well-made. The cost to reupholster hinges mostly on the fabric selection and any special features of your piece (channel-back, tufting, buttons, etc). We use only highly-qualified and experienced upholsterers.
